PTV Home or PTV is Pakistan Television Corporation's flagship channel which is broadcast worldwide through satellite.
The content of the terrestrial and satellite channels is different; for example, terrestrial programming includes live telecasts of Pakistan's cricket matches and other professional sports, but the satellite channel cannot broadcast this content.
The idea of establishing a media and television industry was conceived in late 1958 by the privately set-up national education commission, with the support of then-President Field Marshal Ayub Khan.
In 1964, Syed Wajid Ali launched a television industrial development project, and brought in electrical engineer Ubaidur Rahman of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) as the project director of the first television programme.
Ali established a private television broadcasting company with the cooperation of Nippon Electric Company (NEC) of Japan and Thomas Television International of Great Britain.
In 1963, at a public meeting chaired by President Ayub Khan, the government decided to launch a television industry in the country.
Since 1963, its headquarters have been located in Islamabad. From 1961–62, a television headquarters was established in Lahore, and Rahman's team made several pilot transmission tests, while many television divisions were established throughout Pakistan, including in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. 'PTV Home' operations building is situated at H-9 sector, Islamabad, Pakistan.
PTV Home Live – Pride of Pakistan, the national TV channel PTV Home needs no introduction. The channel has its roots deep since the evolution of electronic media in Pakistan. The very first channel to operate in Pakistan is PTV.
The black and white transmission of PTV symbolized the presence of Pakistan in the electronic media. PTV Home Live is an entertainment subsidiary of Pakistan Television Network and plays a vital role in showcasing the face of the nation.
It is the oldest and widely available terrestrial channel across Pakistan and worldwide via satellite. PTV Home Live enjoys the largest national viewership in the country.
The content telecast on the terrestrial and satellite channels is dissimilar. The PTV terrestrial programming includes live telecasts of Pakistan's cricket matches along with other professional sports, but the satellite channel is not authorized to broadcast this content. PTV Home that we see today is not the same some decades back.
Pakistan Television Broadcasting age initiated with a small TV Station established at Lahore. The transmission was initially beamed in Black & White colors in 26 November 1964.
The PTV centres were established in Karachi, Rawalpindi/Islamabad in year 1967 and in Peshawar and Quetta in 1974.
The channel was the sole entertainment channel in the country that became a household name with flag ship shows and record breaking drama serials including Neelam Ghar hosted by Tariq Aziz, Drama Serials like Waris, Khuda Ki Basti, An Kahi, Angan Tehra, Dhoop Kinaray, Half Plate, Alpha Bravo Charlie (breaking the records of TRPs) and who can forget the 9 pm Khabarnama. PTV Home gave us legends like late Moin Akhtar, Bushra Ansari, Anwer Maqsood, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and lots of other gems.
Today, PTV Home Live is revitalized with a new refreshing look and new TV Shows running successfully.
